Executive Summary

Police Athletic League (PAL) is New York City’s largest independent youth development non-profit organization. It serves more than 35,000 children each year, ranging from preschool children to high school graduates. The organization offers a variety of programs and services to youth in New York City’s most challenging neighborhoods.

For over ten years, the organization has relied on TraxSolutions software to serve as a reliable database across multiple sites, saving countless precious hours of administration time while also making data management simple with the Trax Administrator module, which allows the organization to access and manage data for all of its sites. By using our software, the organization can easily report that 100% of high school seniors enrolled in PAL’s In-School Training and Employment Program graduated on time, and 90% went on to enroll in college. Further, they could also show that among younger kids who participated in PAL SMARTS classes, 97% have been promoted to the next grade level. P.F. Bresee Foundation empowers youth and families in the greater Los Angeles area by providing them with the skills, resources, and relationships needed to thrive. The organization offers a wide range of programs and services designed to support its mission, including academic tutoring, STEAM projects, athletics, workforce readiness, youth development & gang prevention for middle school and high school students, intergenerational, and family programs.

 

Bresee’s robust programming, including off-site and virtual programming, called for advanced solutions to meet their data collection needs. TraxSolutions® proved to be the ideal end-to-end web-based tool, giving Bresee Foundation the solutions they needed to scan participants in and out of programs with existing ID cards, track and record attendance for hybrid program participation (both in-person and virtual), and track attendance on the go with Trax Attendance Manager.

 

Having recently selected TraxSolutions for their participant management needs, Bresee looks forward to replacing previous paper systems used to sign participants in and out of programs with mobile attendance tracking. By simplifying this process, the organization will reduce administration time and eliminate the need to enter post-program data. Moreover, the Foundation can now use the mobile app to access participant contact information instantly, a feature they note has become increasingly important with the rise in off-site programming.

 

In addition to mobile tracking, the organization will also use TraxSolutions to consolidate data and showcase the interconnectedness of their programs. The agency has evolved from a drop-in homework assistance based programming to a robust multi-service agency. When a child participates in our after-school programs or is referred to us from their school’s counselor, the entire family is welcomed into the Bresee community. Serving over 1,000 students and 4,900 families per year, the agency’s holistic approach to battling poverty is to be the bridge via mentorship, socio-emotional skill building, and financial literacy workshops for the entire family. In fact, Bresee continues its 38-year tradition of participants going from being served to serving others with 40% of their current staff being former alums.
